About Us and Our
Adoption Process
Hope Rescue is not a rescue in the conventional sense. We are primarily a co-ordinating rescue. Most of our work involves moving dogs from put to sleep or emergency situations. We secure rescue spaces for these dogs with reputable rescues such as the Dogs Trust, Blue Cross and RSPCA, together with a number of excellent smaller rescues and breed rescues. We will also transport them to the rescue and cover many thousands of miles every month.
The majority of the dogs we deal with are strays from Local Authority pounds which would otherwise be euthanised once they have completed their statutory 7 days. Most of the pounds we work with are located in South Wales, but we also regularly help pounds in the Midlands and South West of England. We also help other rescues and organisations to move dogs when they are full and have dogs referred to them that they cannot take in.
"On average we move around 20 dogs a week, but at peak times this can be as high as 40 dogs, many of which are facing destruction."
We use boarding kennels in Llantrisant and Caerphilly, South Wales to hold dogs if there is a delay in their put to sleep date and a rescue space becoming available. Boarding fees are one of our highest expenses but holding kennels are vital as usually there are not enough rescue spaces available, particularly for the bull breeds and other larger breeds.
We also take in dogs for rehoming ourselves via a network of fantastic and dedicated foster homes.
We are entirely self-funded and rely on the fantastic support of our volunteers. There are many ways you can help Hope Rescue - fundraising, transporting, donation, sponsorship etc.
All of our dogs are neutered (if over 6 months), vaccinated, flea treated, wormed and micro-chipped prior to adoption. If your dog is under 6 months old neutering will be your responsibility by the date stated on your Guardianship Agreement. We will require proof in the form of the Neutering Certificate given to you at the time of adoption .
We ask for a minimum donation of £150 (non refundable) unless otherwise stated.
We have a thorough rehoming process at Hope Rescue: Completion of our initial Interest Form Informal telephone interview Home Check Meet the Dog Guardianship Agreement ( Follow-up visit (if necessary)
Adoption Restrictions:
We also have some basic rehoming criteria. Occasionally we can be flexible and this will be detailed on the individual dogs rehoming information:
We do not rehome to homes with children under 5 years unless specified on the individual dogs rehoming information
We do not rehome to homes with existing dogs that are not neutered (unless for medical or exceptional circumstances)
We will rehome certain dogs to full-time workers where specified in the rehoming information, however you must make arrangements for someone to visit during the day e.g. a dog sitter
Prior to rehoming you will be required to visit the dog either in our kennels or foster home together with any other dogs in your family
We do not allow our dogs to be rehomed to working homes (e.g. hunting)
