RescueSearch was brought about by Petmeds having a stand at Crufts. The owner Ricky Thomas, met with several of the charities being represented there and had talked about his ideas of launching an animal rehoming website which gave more to the organisations then simply creating a database of animals. He spoke of cheaper healthcare for the animals in care, an affiliate scheme which would raise more money for the rescue centres and cheaper healthcare for the animal owners.
